Groovy Green Livin Vegan strawberry Sorbet

The combination of heat and humidity have been draining over the past few days. To keep everyone cool and happy we have ramped our smoothie addiction up a notch. We are now experimenting with different flavors of sorbet, which are just as easy to make (if not easier) than a smoothie. This week we tested out a few different flavors and voted on our favorite. The Vegan Strawberry Sorbet was the winner.

The key ingredient in this sorbet are a few frozen bananas. As our bananas ripen and begin to turn brown I put them in the freezer so they’re ready for use.

Ingredients

  • A few frozen bananas ( one banana for each 12 oz. bag of frozen strawberries)
  • 12 oz. bag of frozen strawberries (I like to use organic strawberries)
  • You will also need a food processor or blender

Directions

  • Place a banana in the food processor and blend until creamy.
  • After banana is creamy add the bag of frozen strawberries (do not defrost prior to use).
  • Blend together until mixture reaches desired consistency.
  • Scoop right away or place in container and freeze for later use.

  1. That looks delicious and easy too! I have never made sorbet but I will definitely try this one. A few weeks ago I saw a recipe for a strawberry lime granita and I have been meaning to try that too.

    Have a great weekend!

  2. It is getting hot where I am so this looks great…Much healthier than ice cream and I like the fact that there is no processed sugar.

I am glad that I stumbled upon your site.

  3. It is raining here this weekend, but I will have to pin this for later!

  4. I had no idea it was so easy to make sorbet! And I, too, save my brown bananas in the freezer. This morning my partner and I went strawberry picking, so it’s high time we use up the last of the strawberries we picked and froze last year. I look forward to trying out this recipe. Thanks for sharing!

  5. Hi Andrea, it was SO easy to make. Sounds like you have all the ingredients to give it a try! Let me know how it turns out.

  6. Thanks Brenna! Hope you enjoy. My kids certainly did!

  7. Hi Stan, no processed sugar is the main reason I love this sorbet. It’s incredibly sweet with nothing added. I’m glad you stumbled on my site too.

  8. Hi Marsha, Let me know if you give it a try. Your kids will love it! What’s lime granita? Sounds yummy.

  9. You are such a green foodie just like Stephanie. I need to kick it up a notch and get my foodie game on!!

  10. I haven’t tried this with strawberries, but I have with bananas alone. So good! And you can also thin it out with a little almond or coconut milk to make it a shake. :)

  11. This was amazing! I added a little lime juice. I’m planning to try this with raspberries (and mint?) and blueberries too. I’m also going to use the frozen banana concept to try for peanut butter ice cream–there’s a local shop that does a soy version that I like.

  12. Lime juice is a great idea. I’ll have to try that next time. Anything with peanut butter is OK in my book.

  13. Great suggestion Kiersten-sometimes it’s fun to drink through a straw.

  14. […] you finally in the throws of spring and warmer temperatures, this is the perfect weekend to try out this recipe for Vegan Strawberry Sorbet. It really does take 5 minutes to make. And for those of you getting hit with a May snow storm, […]
