Product Review: LunchBots Stainless Steel Lunch Containers

LunchBots stainless steel lunch containers [1]

Lunch boxes are a hot topic of conversation these days. It’s hard not to talk about them when children’s lunches create more than 3.5 billion pounds of garbage each year [2], which amounts to a crazy 18,760 pounds of trash annually from an average sized elementary school. That’s a lot of waste.

The Sierra Club [3] estimates that families spend $85/year on disposable plastic baggies. Over the years our family has gradually switched to reusable products and phased out the single-use, disposable, plastic baggies.

Investing in reusable products might be a bit of an investment upfront, but the savings over the life of the products is substantial.

LunchBots for squishables

LunchBots have been a great addition to our reusable collection. They are a green and eco-friendly option for any adult or child’s lunch box. We use LunchBots for our squishables and more. What are squishables? Any type of food that could get squished in a reusable bag: grapes, blueberries, strawberries, watermelon, sliced apples and bananas. We even use our LunchBots for cheese and crackers.

Abe’s Market offers LunchBots in 4 different sizes and colors. They are made from stainless steel with colorful, tightly fitting stainless lids (they aren’t leak proof so don’t pack them upside down or sideways if something could potentially leak). Pop them right in the dishwasher for easy cleaning.

The Pico (yellow lid) [5] fits perfectly in a lunchbox.  It has a divider so we can pack our favorite foods together, but they won’t touch. The Uno (blue lid) is a bit larger and perfect for a sandwich. The Duo (orange lid) is the same size as the Uno, but has a stainless divider to separate food.

The Eco (green lid) is the largest of the group and doesn’t have a divider. It works well for a salad or other larger lunch options. I’ve also seen it used to bring home restaurant leftovers. You can also buy all 4 containers at once with the LunchBots set.

Abe’s Market is offering FREE SHIPPING on their products through the end of December, 2011.
