I’m a Mom on a Mission Finalist!

Groovy Green Livin Mom on a Mission [1]

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Healthy Child Healthy World Mom on a Mission® campaign, it’s “designed to honor those who truly make a difference. Currently in its fifth year, the program aims to recognize all that moms do to make the world a better place as women, consumers, thought leaders and role models for future generations.”  It’s a celebration of moms dedicated to creating healthier environments for children.

I’m incredibly honored that Healthy Child Healthy World has named me a Mom on a Mission finalist for 2013, recognizing my work advocating on behalf of children and their families.

I share this honor with all of you who have supported me in my efforts. Tide agreeing to reformulate [2] their laundry detergent to reduce the amounts of a cancer causing chemical was a true testament to the power of our collective voices.  The support received after starting a petition asking Disney to remove toxic chemicals [3] from their Spiderman and princess lunch boxes encourages me to continue on. You can read my full story HERE [4].

Over the years I’ve heard bits and pieces about the Mom on a Mission campaign and seen some of my green heroes make their way to the top of the list. Tamara Rubin founded Lead Safe America [5] to promote protective policies after two of her four children were lead poisoned during a routine home renovation. She turned her tragedy into a crusade for lead safety and completed a documentary called “Mislead: America’s Secret Epidemic.” [6] She was named the 2011 Mom on a Mission. My friend Penelope Jagessar Chaffer was the 2010 Mom on a Mission for her inspirational film“Toxic Baby” [7].

Healthy Child Healthy World has been a tremendous influence throughout my blogging career. Their efforts to create a world where parents feel empowered to make a difference and their belief that  “No one can do everything. Everyone can do something.” ring true in my world too. Working as a Parent Ambassador [8] with Healthy Child Healthy World has helped shape my belief that our collective voices can make a difference.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the past few years it’s that advocacy work takes a village. Thankfully there are so many amazing  people and organizations willing to go out on a limb to make the world a better place for all. It’s incredible to see how powerful we really are when we set our intentions high.

Together we can make a difference. I share this nomination with all of YOU!

Thank you Healthy Child Healthy World.
